Ernst Adolph Fischer

Ernst Adolph Fischer, age 98, of Menomonee Falls, died on Friday, May 18, 2012, at Tamarack Place in Menomonee Falls. He was born in Milwaukee on November 27, 1913, the son of the late Otto and Helena (Kamke) Fischer. He attended Emmaus Lutheran Grade School in Milwaukee and in 1988 received his GED from Waukesha County Technical College. On August 28, 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Irene Knoebel at Emmaus Lutheran Church. Irene preceded him in death on November 8, 2006.

Ernie had been employed at the Harley Davidson Company, for 17 years, working in the stock room and running a micrometer. He later opened his own radio and TV repair business in Milwaukee on East Locust St., later on Burleigh St. and then on Hwy 175 in Fussville. He retired after 13 years as an inspector at Wisconsin Gasket Company.

Ernst and his wife Irene had been members at St. John’s in Lannon, where he drove school bus. In 1964, they transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church Freistadt in Mequon. They enjoyed gardening and had an extensive garden. They also enjoyed golfing with friends and spending time at Fish Boils in Door County. Ernie played baseball in a city league and his manager was Harvey Kuehn Sr. Harvey’s son, Harvey Jr. was the bat boy at that time and in the 1980’s became the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers. In his later years, Ernie, who had a gift for gab, was active in his church visiting with shut-ins and supporting a church program for children with developmental disabilities. His family will remember him for his one liners, such as, “Don’t take any wooden nickels” and before they would depart for a trip he would shout, “pull in the anchor!”.

Mr. Fischer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Chuck Carlson of Sheboygan, 3 grandchildren, Mark (Linda) Carlson of Wauwatosa, Stephen (Carol) Carlson of Waukesha and Pastor Jennifer Carlson of West Allis, 7 great-grandchildren, Brian, Laura, Melanie, Adam, Stephanie, Amy and Jeremiah Carlson, nieces and nephews in the greater Milwaukee area, cousins in the Beaver Dam area and many friends. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Arnold Fischer and Clarence (LaVerne) Fischer, 3 sisters Renata (Hans) Peters, Viola (Peter) Braun and Edna Fischer.

Funeral Services for Ernst will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church Freistadt, 10729 W. Freistadt Road in Mequon with the Reverend Peter Kelm, senior pastor and the Reverend Carl W. Lehenbauer, associate pastor, officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be, AT THE CHURCH, on Saturday, May 26, 2012, from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Freistadt Cemetery.

Memorials may be given, in Ernst name, to Trinity Lutheran Church Freistadt.

The family wishes to thank Elizabeth, Page and Dan for their care and concern, the staff of Tamarack Place, Lisa and Gina, Hospice nurses with Compassionate Care of West Allis, Feletia and Lena with Senior Helpers and Dr. Patrick Brody with Aurora Advanced Health Care in Menomonee Falls.
