James M. Tackes, age 79, of Random Lake, passed away late afternoon (March 12) at Aurora Grafton Medical Center.
James was born on November 8, 1934 in Dacada, WI, a son of the late John and Eleanor (Bichler) Tackes.
He grew up on the family farm in Dacada while attending the local school.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956 during the Korean War.
On August 29, 1959 he married Sharon Schneider at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Random Lake.
The couple has resided in Silver Creek since their marriage. Sharon preceded him in death on November 16, 2006.
He worked as a carpenter with P&L Construction Company in Saukville for over 30 years retiring in 2000. He was a life member of the Ozaukee County Memorial Post #5373 and served as past commander. James also went on the First Korean Honor Flight in October of 2013.
James is a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Random Lake. He also was a former member of the Silver Creek Fire Department. He also served as a Sherman Worker 4H Club leader.
He enjoyed doing puzzles, fishing, gardening, woodworking, feeding his birds and spending time at his cottage in Phelps, WI.
Survivors include his special friend: Irene Ramirez of Random Lake; five children: Pam Eder of Random Lake, Lisa (Gordon) Wells of Cascade, Jim Jr. (Bonnie) Tackes of Cascade, Katie (Mike) Janik of Milwaukee and Kris (Elizabeth) Tackes of Plaines, WI ; eight grandchildren: Brian (Courtney) Eder of Random Lake, Becky (Ray) Demunk of Greenbush, Joseph Eder (Special Friend: Stephanie) of Oostburg, Sydney and Grady Tackes of Cascade, Lilian and Cooper Janik of Milwaukee and David Tackes of Fond du Lac; three great grandchildren: Joey, Brayden and Addison Eder; two brothers: Stanley (Angela) Tackes of Grafton and John (Lorraine) Tackes of Hawaii; two sister-in-laws: Myrt Tackes of Belvidere, IL and Joanne Schneider of Arizona.
Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by one son: Joseph Tackes; two brothers: Ralph (Dorothy) Tackes and Quentin Tackes; one sister: Mary Babboni and one brother-in-law: Joseph Schneider Jr.
Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday evening (March 18) at 6:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Random Lake. Father Dennis Van Beek will officiate. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Random Lake.
Friends may call at the CHURCH on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in James’ name.
The Ozaukee County Memorial Post #5373 will conduct military rites at the church following services.
