Obituary for Allen D. Payne

Allen D. Payne, age 89, 124 S. Bruns Avenue, Plymouth, passed away Wednesday morning, on 26th of April, at Anita's gardens in Plymouth.

He was born Oct. 25, 1927 in Town Plymouth, the oldest son of the late Floyd and Louise (Ott) Payne.

Allen attended Plymouth Public schools & graduated from Plymouth High School in 1946. He served with the U.S. Army in the occupation of Japan with the First Cavalry Division in the Yokohama area, after returning to the United States he was Honorably discharged in 1948.

He graduated Milwaukee School of Engineering as a Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning technician.

Allen married Marilyn Wilke on June 30, 1951 in Plymouth. The couple resided in Plymouth & Sheboygan before moving to Town Lyndon in 1954 and residing there over 50 years. Marilyn and Allen enjoyed over 57 years of marriage. Marilyn preceded him in death on September 2, 2008.

He worked for the H & W auto dealership in Plymouth & later for Sheboygan Auto Sales – Lincoln-Mercury in Sheboygan as mechanic and later was service manager for Elm City Motors-Edsel dealership. Allen worked for Hi-Lite Polishing Machine Co. for 41 years from 1960 until 2001 as welder, assembler & for 30 years as design engineer.

Allen & Marilyn worked many years collecting genealogy information on their ancestors and created several books, detailing the information they had collected. Allen was a volunteer at Sheboygan County Historical Research Center for over 20 years and enjoyed assisting Marilyn with the Photo collection & the many other projects at the center. He also assisted Marilyn with her volunteer work at Sheboygan County Comprehensive Health Care Center.

Allen was a Life member of Plymouth VFW Post #5612 where he was formerly Quartermaster & Adjutant. He volunteered many Saturdays at the Stock Car Race Concessions, and was a member of the funeral firing squad.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, parents, Floyd and Louise; brother-in-law, Arno Payne; and sister-in-law, Eileen Payne.

Survivors include his two sons, Richard (Kathy) Payne of Plymouth and Daniel (Marlene) Payne of League City, Texas; three grandchildren, Stephine Hazen, Matt (Jamie) Payne Wyatt (Felecia) Payne; and seven great grandchildren, Ethan and Nolan Hazen, Nevyn, Ayah, Sura, Zakariya and Dylan Payne, sister Elaine (George) VanKooy, brother Henry (Merikay) Payne, and sister-in-law Betty Payne.

In honoring Allens’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Memorials may be sent to the Intergenerational Center in Plymouth (Generations) or Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, Sheboygan Falls, in Allen's name.
