Obituary for Clarence C. Richter

On Saturday, August 5th, 2017, the world unexpectedly lost Clarence Charles Richter, age 76, of Elkhart Lake, WI to natural causes.

Clarence was born June 27th, 1941 in Sheboygan WI, and was second of five children born to the late Carl & Edna (Horneck) Richter. Clarence was a graduate of Elkhart Lake High School, followed by service in the United States Army. On June 8th, 1963 he was united in marriage with the late Elvira Richter at Community UCC (United Church of Christ) in Elkhart Lake.

Clarence was an extremely kind, selfless, and caring family man. Along with Elvira (who passed only 2 weeks prior), he loved his children and grandchildren tremendously. Most noticeable was Clarence’s boundless care for Elvira during her illness. In addition to his family devotion, Clarence was employed at the Kohler Company for 41 years. Both at work and at home, Clarence was known for his ingenuity, mechanical aptitude, and being very organized. He also attended Community UCC in Elkhart Lake, and volunteered many years on the Elkhart Lake Fire Department. Other favorite pastimes of Clarence’s were magic tricks, playing cards at the firehouse, golfing, and sports (especially involving his grandchildren). He also loved winters with Elvira and friends in Lake Havasu, AZ.

Survivors include his four children – Kevin (Pam) Richter, Kim (Steve) Perreault, Robert (Eileen) Richter, and Cori (Jason) Scheberl; twelve grandchildren – Jason, Dustin, Andy, Michael, Benjamin, James, Mikaela, Coltton, Morgan, Alex, Addison, and Mason; and two great-grandchildren – Brailynn and Teagan. He is further survived by his brothers – Carl Richter, Wallace (Beth) Richter, sisters – JoAnn (John) Harms, Diane (Richard) Ninnemann; brothers-in-law Vernon (Aggie) Vogel and Keith Hassinger; sisters-in-law – Rosie Vogel and Loretta Vogel, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years – Elvira; his brothers-in-law – Fred Vogel, Rueben Vogel, Elroy Vogel, Arlen (Betty Jane) Vogel, and Donald (Elaine) Vogel; and sisters-in-law – Joyce Richter, Lucinda (Melvin) Happel, Ellen (Norman) Lehrke, Elaine (Joe) Lisowe, Betty Niemuth, Judy Hassinger, Mabel (Al) Lenz, and Janice Vogel.

Funeral services will be held at Community UCC in Elkhart Lake on Thursday (August 10) at 2:00 PM. Pastor Deborah Tyler will officiate.

Visitation will be at CHURCH from 11:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Elkhart Lake.

In lieu of flowers, and for those wanting to donate in honor of Clarence, his wishes were gifts to JDRF, the MS Society, and/or Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake.

The immediate family wishes to thank all family and friends during these extremely heartbreaking times in the loss of both Clarence and Elvira.
