Obituary for Evelyn B. Hansmann

Evelyn B. (Nee Dorow) Hansmann, age 94, Plymouth, WI, entered into eternal life on Monday evening (May 1, 2017) at the home of Tim and Peggy Hansmann.

She was born on June 27, 1922 in Wayne, Michigan, the daughter of the late Herman and Bessie (Krempec) Dorow.

She attended elementary and high schools in Belleville, Michigan. During World War II, she was employed by the Detroit Edison Company in order to earn money for college. After the war she enrolled in Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota in order to earn her degree in elementary education. After graduation she taught for a number of years at Jerusalem Lutheran School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later at Emanuel Lutheran School in New London, Wisconsin.

On June 15, 1957 she married Theodore W. Hansmann at St. John's Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Wisconsin. After their marriage she taught 3rd grade at St. John's Lutheran School in Plymouth for a number of years. After she and Ted retired, they resided in Plymouth at 18 Grove Street for the rest of their lives.

Evelyn greatly enjoyed her teaching profession and her church work. She and Ted were two of the founding members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plymouth, and in the early days of the congregation hosted church services in their living room on Grove Street. She and Ted traveled extensively, both before and after retirement, with a special love for the American and Canadian West. They were masters of traveling on a tight budget, and they always got their money's worth. She was instrumental in raising both of her grandsons, and the special light of her life was her great grandson William, who was probably the last person in her life still able to bring a smile to her face.

She is survived by her stepson Timothy Hansmann and stepdaughter-in-law Peggy, two grandsons, Michael Hansmann (Jenny) of Plymouth and Daniel Hansmann of DePere, Wisconsin, and one great-grandson, William. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Dorow of Houghton Lake, Michigan, and her sister Alice Slabaugh of Clinton, Michigan. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband Ted in 1997.

Funeral services will be held Saturday Morning, (May 6, 2017) at 11:30 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plymouth, WI. Rev. Charles Heup, Pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will be at Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery across the street from the church.

Visitation will be held at the CHURCH from 10:00 A.M. on Saturday until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Evelyn’s name.

The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family. For online condolences, please visit www.suchon.com.

The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff at Sharon Richardson Hospice for their excellent care, the staff at Embrace Home Care, her physician, Dr. Rebecca Zimmerman, and Pastor Charlie Heup, her minister at Good Shepherd. We would also like to thank her kind and attentive neighbors, Lee and Linda Schneider, Paul and Ann Gamoke, and Brian and Sue Smith, who always kept an eye out for her and rendered innumerable kindnesses to her.
