Obituary for Janet M. Rentmeester

Janet M. Rentmeester, age 93, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning (May 3, 2018) at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Facility in Sheboygan Falls.

She was born on August 1, 1924 in Neenah, WI, daughter of the late Arthur and Irene (Smongesky) Arndt.

After graduating from Neenah High School, Janet went into the Cadet Nursing Program at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. She graduated with a three year diploma as a Registered Nurse, and went on to the University of Minnesota to receive her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Janet met Clement Rentmeester through a friend at the Saturday night dances in Oshkosh. The couple married on April 26, 1952 in Appleton. They farmed together in Sheboygan County and raised 8 children together. Janet enjoyed the country life. Her skills included: sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, knitting, and raising chickens for the eggs.

Wife, Mother, Farmer, and a Registered Nurse, Janet returned to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac after 15 years of being a homemaker. She worked 22 more years at the hospital before retiring at age 62. Following her retirement, she returned to work for 3 years for the Visiting Nurses Association of Sheboygan.

Clem preceded her in death on January 4, 1989. Following his passing, she left nursing and decided to volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul in Plymouth.

Janet was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in the Town of Mitchell, and currently a member of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church in Eden. She participated heavily in the Ladies groups and taught catechism.

She loved spending time with her family, and was always there to help others and offer advice when needed. Janet will be greatly missed!

Survivors include: Eight children: Paul (Christine), Patrice (Steven), Christopher, Gregory (Nancy), Jeffrey (Sue), Rodney, Mary Kay (Jim), and Thomas (Tammy); Thirteen grandchildren; Ten great-grandchildren; and One sister-in-law.

She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Janet was preceded in death by: Her husband; Parents; Grandson: Seth; Sister and Brother-in-law: Doris (Al); Brother: Art; and Uncles: Francis, Norbert, and Peter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (May 7, 2018) at 12:00 Noon at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Rd. B, Eden, WI, 53019. Father Mark Jones, Pastor of the Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, N3604 Scenic Dr., Cascade, WI, 53011.

Praying of the Rosary will take place at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday (May 7) with Visitation to follow from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass.

A memorial fund is being established in Janet’s name.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, Cedar Bay Assisted Living, Sharon S. Richardson Hospice and long-time physican and friend, Dr. Kapur, for all the care and compassion given to Janet.
