Obituary for Jerry L. Mueller

Jerry Lee Mueller, aka Moose, aka Happy Plumber - age 75, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning (October 18, 2017).

He was born on March 21, 1942 in Plymouth, the first of three children born to the late Art and Ona (Arpke) Mueller of Elkhart Lake.

Jerry spent his youth in Omro, Elkhart Lake and Plymouth graduating from PHS and was an avid football player. As a stocky starting fullback, Mueller earned the nickname Moose which stuck with him in certain circles throughout his life. Upon graduation Jerry joined the U.S. Army and spent time stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood and in Laon, France where he largely drove a deuce-and-a-half around Europe. Upon completing his military duty Jerry returned to Plymouth and began serving a plumbing apprenticeship at Rhode Brothers.

On April 8, 1967, he married Jane Mae Feldner at St. Claudius Catholic Church in St. Cloud, WI. Jerry converted to Catholicism and was very active in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #1789. He also helped start the youth Columbian Squires organization, served on the Building and Grounds Committee, and was a religious education teacher. The couple resided on Bishop Street in Plymouth for 50 years.

Jerry excelled as a plumber and advanced through his apprenticeship and journeymen years to quickly become a Master Plumber in the early 1970's. Jerry then entered into the Kohlmann and Mueller Plumbing and Heating partnership in St. Cloud, and later established Mueller Plumbing and Heating in Plymouth in the early 1980’s. Jerry ran a successful multi-truck plumbing shop until a rare genetic disease (myasthenia gravis) forced retirement in 1993.

He loved hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and giving back to the community and worked many “jail and bails” and spent years promoting outdoor sports through a variety of sportsmen’s clubs and as a State Trapper Education Instructor.

Jerry was a great family man as well; he and Jane loved raising their three children. He instilled in his children a strong moral character, a great work ethic and deep spiritual values. The impact Jerry and Jane had on their children has been further fostered in their five wonderful grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Jane on April 6, 2017, and is survived by: Three children: Jeff (Marsha) of Plymouth, Jeane (Brent) Sager of Plymouth, and Julie (Chris) LaVine of Plymouth; Five grandchildren: Madelyn Mueller, Darian and Amanda Sager, and Adam and Emily LaVine; One sister: Joann (Tim) Brock of Sheboygan; Two sisters-in-law: Judy (Pedro) Wagner of St. Cloud and Joyce (John) Helz of Oshkosh.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents, and brother and sister-in-law James and Diane Mueller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sunday (October 22, 2017) at 3:30 P.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Father Dennis Van Beek will officiate. Cremation will take place following the services.

Visitation will take place at CHURCH on Sunday (October 22) from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jerry’s name for dementia research.
