Obituary for John E. "Jake" Harvey

John E. “Jake” Harvey, age 88, of Plymouth (Formerly of Massachusetts), passed away early Thursday morning (August 10, 2017) at Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility in Plymouth where he had been a resident for the past 3 months.

Jake was born on April 2, 1929 in Waldo, WI, a son of the late Robert O. and Louise
(Harrison) Harvey.

He graduated from Waldo High School in 1945. While attending High School he
worked at Hurburges in Port Washington, WI.

Jake served in the United States Army from 1951-1956.

On August 23, 1966, he married Sophie Ganga in Troy, New York. The couple resided in Schenectady, New York for several years and in Pittsfield, MA since 1956. His wife preceded him in death on March 17, 2011.

He attended and graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1956 with Associates Degrees in Applied Science with Majors in Electronics and Electric Power.

Jake started work for the General Electric Atomic Division in Schenectady, New York in 1956 and transferred to what would become the GE’s Aero-Space Division in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1958 and retired from GE after 35 years retiring in 1991.

He is survived by one sister-in-law: Nina Harvey of Waldo; Seven Nephews: Gary (Mary) Dekker of Waldo, Edgar (Karla) Harvey of Waldo, Glenn Harvey of Anchorage, AK, Robert (Bernadette) Harvey of Mishicot, WI, Matthew (Eva) Harvey of Campbellsport, WI, Frank Sofocleous of Falls Church, VA, Mike Sofocleous of Alexandria, VA; and Two nieces: Robert “Robin” Dekker of Portland, OR, and Geri (Jerome) Zimbal of Sheboygan.

Also survived by many great nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Thomas, Edgar and Infant Robert Harvey, one sister: Mary Louise (Ben) Dekker; and one half-brother: Edwin Inglese.

Private family services will be held at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Burial will be in the Pittsfield Cemetery in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
