Obituary for Michael "Mike" Gordy

Michael “Mike” Gordy, age 70, of Plymouth, WI, entered eternal life on Tuesday (April 3, 2018).

I prepared this obituary in hopes it would never have to be used, but alas, all good things must end. To quote Mickey Mantle “If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself”. I was fortunate in life to have a loving and fabulous wife, a terrific family, great friends, and our Lord Jesus Christ. I’ll keep this short and sweet as Joe Friday from Dragnet said “Just the facts ma’am”.

Mike entered this world at 9lbs. 9oz. on October 17, 1947, in Ft. Pierce, FL, a son of the late Karlton L. and Harriet K. (Moore) Gordy.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL.

On September 16, 1994 he married his best friend and love of his life, Deborah Schmidt-Wirtz.

Mike was employed at Sargento Foods in Plymouth for 32 years and he thanks the Gentine family for their wonderful support and most importantly their patience. He retired as President of Sargento’s Food Ingredient Division and was awarded Leonard A. Gentine Founders Ring.

Mike served as the past President of the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association.

He enjoyed fishing, wood working and reading.

He is survived by his wife and best friend: Deborah Gordy of Plymouth; Children: Steven M. (Georgina) Gordy of Costa Rica, Bethany L. Gordy of Madison, WI. Step Children: Richard J. (Amy) Wirtz of Plymouth and Adam J. (Samantha) Wirtz of NY, NY. His loving grandchildren: Kai M. Gordy, Lia Gordy, Max Gordy, Benjamin Wirtz, and Daniel Wirtz. His siblings: Richard R. (Patricia) Gordy, Patricia A. Forbes (Late Thomas Forbes Sr.). His in-laws: Tom (Kris) Schmidt, Joe (Kim) Schmidt, Christy Schmidt, Pam (Dan) Barsness, David (Katie) Schmidt, Catherine (Ryan) Parmerlee and Sarah Zimbal. Mother and father-in-law: Nancy (Randy) Radloff and the late Thomas Schmidt Sr. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday afternoon (April 7, 2018) at 2:00 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Mother Michele Whitford, of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Plymouth, will officiate.

Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Suchon Funeral Home on Saturday morning (April 7) from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Mike’s name for the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Plymouth.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Walt Longo and the staff at UW Madison Hospital for all the care and compassion given to Mike. Remember to live long, laugh hard and love unconditionally.
