Obituary for Thomas R. Marshall

Thomas R. “Tony” Marshall, 80, of Plymouth, passed away at home on Tuesday (September 11, 2018) after a year battle with cancer.

He was born in Ashland, WI on September 9, 1938, son of the late Thomas and Ludmilla (Beesley) Marshall. After attending schools in Ashland, he joined the United States Air Force at age 17.

Tony worked many different jobs in his life; cutting trees in the lumber industry, working in iron ore mines in Minnesota, and sailing on iron ore ships on the Great Lakes. While wintering in Grafton, WI in the off season he worked at Ataco Steel where he met his wife, Marie Wegner. They were married on October 31, 1970 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, WI.

Following retirement, he enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, hiking and going to Hub City Restaurant for coffee and half a sandwich with his wife. He also did groundskeeping for his son David’s masonry business. He supported both of his sons in their hobbies and work; attending Dave’s auto racing events at Road America and receiving a tattoo from his son Tom on his 70th birthday.

Survivors include: Wife: Marie; Two sons: Thomas of Plymouth and David (Dawn) of Glenbeulah; Three sisters: Linda (Wayne) Sellung, Barbara (Dick) Tody, and Roberta (Tony) Basley; Brother: Ellerd Marshall; Mother-in-law: Marie Wegner; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Walter (Robbie) Wegner, Connie Wegner, John (Chris) Wegner, Peter (Laurie) Wegner, Paul Wegner, Christine Wegner, and Liz Wegner; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: His parents; Step-father: Bob Smith; Little brother: Jack; Sisters: Virginia (Bill) Berweger and Ludy (Gary) Hokenson; and Father-in-law: Walter Wegner and Brother-in-law: Joe Wegner.

Following Tony’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday Evenig (Sept. 18, 2018) at 6:00 P.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth. Rev. Nathan Meador and Rev. John Schultz, pastors of the church will co-officiate. Inurnment will be in the Winooski Cemetery in the Town of Lyndon.

Visitation will be at the CHURCH on Tuesday (Sept. 18) from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Tony’s name for the American Cancer Association.
