Obituary for Virgie M. Eigenberger

Virgie May Eigenberger, age 89, of Stoughton (formerly of Plymouth), passed away peacefully at Stoughton Meadows on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.

She was born on May 25, 1928 in Lafayette, LA, to Henry and Gladys (Fontenot) Landry. She attended Catholic elementary school in Lafayette until she moved to Houston, TX, and there she graduated from Jefferson Davis High School.

On May 8, 1954 she married Jerome H. Eigenberger and lived in Houston before moving to Plymouth, WI, where they raised their family and ran their own business, the Plymouth Cheese Counter.

Virgie was an active member of the community. She initiated the Gourmet Club, was active in the Plymouth Dance Club, and volunteered at the Plymouth Art Center and Meals on Wheels. Virgie was also actively involved with the Quit Qui Oc women’s golf league and the Red Hatters.

In addition to her love of cooking and golfing, later in life she developed a love for watercoloring and took lessons with James Michael. Virgie filled her long life with all of these passions and more up to her final years.

She was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth for many years, and her pies were always a big hit for the church’s fundraising events.

Virgie is survived by: One son: Chris (Karen) of Madison, WI; Two daughters: Marla (Charles) Davis of Lafayette, LA and Stacey (Peter) Wright of Stoughton, WI; Five grandchildren: CJ and Adam Davis of Lafayette, LA, Delaney and Isabel Eigenberger of Madison and Natalea Wright of Stoughton; and One great-granddaughter: Justice Davis of Lafayette, LA.

Virgie was preceded in death by: Her parents; Her husband: Jerome; and Daughter: Leah.

Memorial Mass will be held on Friday (Sept 22, 2017) at 2:30 P.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Philip Reifenberg, Pastor of the Church will officiate. Inurnment will be next to her husband at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Plymouth.

Visitation will take place at CHURCH on Friday (Sept. 22) from 1:00 P.M. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Plymouth Arts Center and Heartland Hospice Care of Madison, WI.

The family extends their special thanks to Stoughton Meadows and Heartland Hospice Care for their generous care over the year.
