Obituary for Virginia M. Horneck

Virginia “Ginny” Mae Horneck, age 75, of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday (April 6, 2017) at the Aurora Clinic in Plymouth.

She was born on January 20, 1942, daughter of the late Norman Matzdorf and the late Lucile (Kleinhans) Matzdorf-Nysse.

Ginny attended Acorn Grade School in the town of Sheboygan Falls and Plymouth High School where she graduated in 1960.

On September 24, 1960, she married Norman Horneck at the Salem Plankroad Church in the Town of Sheboygan Falls, by the late Rev. Otto Menke. Rev. Otto Menke had also baptized and confirmed Ginny. She and Norman ran Ginny and Norm’s Lyceum Hall from May 22, 1977 to June 30, 1987. Norman preceded her in death on November 6, 1982.

Ginny worked at various other places: Rocky Knoll, Bordens, Lauer’s Food Mart, West Side Pantry, Subway, and then Dairy Queen for 27 years. For thirteen and a half years she tended bar for Vicki’s Bar, Kerm’s Bar, and Racer’s Hall. She truly enjoyed seeing all the people and tending the bar.

She loved polka and country music. She was an avid follower of the Kingsmen Polka band. Ginny was a ticket taker at the door for many years. She also enjoyed going to tractor shows, stock car races, NASCAR races, and vacationing up north with family for over 50 years. Ginny also played cards with friends in the P & M Card club for over 50 years.

Ginny is survived by: Four sons: Russ of Plymouth, Tony (special friend: Vicky) of Johnsonville, Rich (Teri) of Plymouth and Arlyn (Kelly) of Plymouth; Five grandchildren: Amanda (Kyle) Hemmrich, Nicholas (fiancé: Erin), Trevor, Jacob, and Kaycee (Brian) Zimmerman; Great-granddaughter: Lillyana Hemmrich.
She is also survived by: Her very dear friend: Sheldon Krueger; Step-dad: Albert Nysse; Three sisters: Karen Schinabeck, Bev Weigel, and Charlene (Dave) Backman; Half-brother: Gerry (Judy) Pieper; Two sisters-in-law: Darlene (Don) Schmitt and Bev (Bill) Herzog; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by: Her husband; Parents; Dear friend: LeRoy Reineking; Sister: Sherry Flunker; Brother: Lloyd Matzdorf; Father-in-law: Clarence Horneck; Mother-in-law: Hilda Rosenthal; and Step-Father-in-law: Artie Rosenthal; and Two brothers-in-law: Tony Schinabeck and Jim Weigel.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday (April 11, 2017) at 7:00 P.M. at Salem Plankroad U.C.C. (N5691 County Rd. M, Plymouth, WI 53073). Rev. Cheryl Lepak, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

Visitation will take place at CHURCH on Tuesday (April 11) from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services.
