Obituary for Kenneth E. Hoppert

Kenneth E. Hoppert, age 85, of Plymouth, passed away at home early Wednesday morning (August 1, 2018), surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 11, 1933 in Franklin, in the Town of Herman, WI, son of the late Harry and Iola (Meggers) Hoppert.

Kenneth attended grade schools in Sheboygan and at the Harmon Grade School in rural Plymouth, before graduating from Plymouth High School in 1951.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1957 as a tanker and vehicle mechanic for the armored division, Hell On Wheels, 29th Tank Division, in Baumholder, Germany. He also served two years in Sheboygan for the Army Reserves and also two years in the Standby Reserves.

On June 29, 1963, he married Anna Kuhn at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo. The couple has resided in rural Plymouth since their marriage.

Kenneth worked at R.H.Versh, Gilson Bros, Lawnboy and Toro, retiring in April, 1995 after 35 years.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth. He was also a charter member of UAW #1291 and the Toro Quarter Century Club.

Kenneth enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodworking. He was famous for his funny one-liner jokes with his family and friends. Laughter and smiles were always bountiful in his home. Kenneth took great pride in the building of his own house, in which he lived since 1964. Their vegetable garden supplied many friends, family and neighbors with a bounty of produce every year. He also enjoyed feeding and watching all kinds of birds in the yard. Kenneth wrote down the memories he had from the age of ten through his later years. These memories were later published as a book and presented by his children on his 75th birthday. Kenneth was a devoted husband and father to his family.

Survivors include: His loving wife of 55 years: Anna of rural Plymouth; Daughter: Linda (Randy) Johnson of rural Plymouth; Son: Kevin (Michelle) Hoppert of Brown Deer; Three sisters-in-law: Karen Kuhn of Mt. Calvary, Sue Kuhn of Plymouth, and Carol (Richard) Brott of Plymouth; Brother-in-law: Rueben Kuhn, Jr. of Plymouth; Special family friend: Donna Mae Woelfel; as well as many other family, friends, and cousins.
